Eluru: People across the West Godavari district on Sunday celebrated the Christmas Day with festive fervor. Overcoming demonetization issue, people in large numbers poured into the churches and have offered prayers to Jesus from the midnight of Saturday to Sunday afternoonThe Women and Child Welfare Minister Peethala Sujatha participated in the Christmas celebrations held at Lutheran Church in Bhimavaram on Sunday morning.
She cut the cake marking inauguration of Christmas celebrations in the Church and later participated in special prayers. Church Chief Pastors, Christian association leaders and others also participated in the prayers. At Nidadavole Narayana School, children participated in the Christmas celebrations. Children decorated Santa Claus beautifully that caught the attention of visitors. At Eluru, Christians gathered to offer prayers at prayer halls in various Churches. The prayers have started at Eluru diocese, the Roman Catholic Church in Xavier Nagar. Besides, people enthusiastically offered prayers at Lutheran Church and CSI Churches as well.
At Tadepalligudem, people offered prayers at Luthern Church. The House of Bishop J John Wesley from Manuguru of Khammam district addressed the gathering on the importance of Christmas. Evidently, the normal pomp is found to be lacking among people due to lack of cash. Eluru market that creates lot of shopping buz has witnessed a drop in the interest of shopping due to shortage of new currency.
