Kakinada: Amalapuram Lok Sabha member and Honorary President of Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) East Godavari Committee Pandula Ravindra Babu has said that superstitions are growing because of poverty in India.
He participated as a chief guest at the inaugural of the national short film competition on ‘Superstitions-2018,’ organised by the district Jana Vignana Vedika at the JNTU auditorium here on Saturday evening.
Speaking on this occasion, the MP expressed his concern over the rise in superstitions even though the country was developing in science and medical fields. He also said that some people were spreading superstitions using science and technology.
Special guest of the inaugural function MLC Chikkala Ramachandra Rao said that he would try to bring a law on banning superstitions like in the neighbouring state Karnataka.
Another guest Kakinada Corporation Mayor Pavani, told that women should give up the blind beliefs in society.
The first prize was given to the short film ‘Aarambham’ which was produced by the students of Visual Arts from Loyola College on Menses of Women while ‘Nammakam’ secured the second prize, produced by the Amalapuram Team Works, and ‘Dhana Lakshmi’ won the third prize.
Later, the students of ZP High School displayed some tricks usually fake Babas and Matajis perform to attract the people. They displayed tricks of floating in the mid-air without any base and many more.
Later the MP, Ravindra Babu distributed the prizes. Jana Vignana Vedika national president Dr Vennapusa Brahma Reddy, JNTU Rector Purnanandam, Jana Vignana Vedika representatives Dr MVR Krishnaji, Jampa Krishna Kishore, MVR Phanindra, Siddhantapu Ben Johnson, Mallareddi Sankara Prasad and others participated.
A total of 124 short films competed in this contest from Australia, Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
