World Population Day (WPD) was observed by Maris Stella College (MSC) on Tuesday. The   economics department organised the programmes for the event. Arts graduates and PG students participated in the WPD programme which was held at the college auditorium.

World Population Day (WPD) was observed by Maris Stella College (MSC) on Tuesday. The economics department organised the programmes for the event. Arts graduates and PG students participated in the WPD programme which was held at the college auditorium.

Speaking on the occasion, MSC principal, Dr Sr Rekha said that by 2024 India will reach the population of China and also said that out of every 5 poor people in the would there would be one Indian. She believed that if our country did not control population growth, the entire eco system that supports life would soon collapse and there will be no rebound from there.

Economics HoD B Josephin Sandhya Rani explained the consequences of rapid population growth which would lead to poverty and further explained about population explosion, consequences and measures to be taken, through a power point presentation. She enacted a skit explaining the importance of small family and the negative impact of large families.

Elocution and drawing competitions were held for intermediate, degree and PG students. About 100 students participated in the competition. The students Dipcted the theme of World Population Day 2017 which is ‘Family Planning: Empowering People and Developing Nations.’ Lecturers, students and the staff were present.
