Calls of unknown persons on social media very unsafe: Cyber crime police

Responding to unknown phone calls and accepting friend requests of unknown people on social media, particularly Facebook, is totally unsafe, says city police officials.

The city police have booked 137 cases since 2016 January onwards. Girls and women are cheated in the name of love and they should act cautiously online.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for Law and Order G Pala Raju said that internet browsers should not be attracted to offers online regarding a lottery, granting of personal loan at your bank branch, tour packages and online selling and purchases because it is the root cause for online cheats.

He said that social media users should avoid spreading false news based on caste, language, gender, region and political parties because anti social elements would create ruckus in a peaceful atmosphere.

DCP mentioned that the all Facebook users should not accept unknown friend requests and parents must take care of their children to keep them safe from anti social elements.

Cyber Crime Circle Inspector P Satyanarayana said that nearly 100 innocent bank account holders told their One Time Password number on phone to the cyber offenders while cyber criminals made a phone call to bank account holders with the identity of a bank manager.

He said that all cyber related cases have been resolved by the Cyber crime police in the city and all section of people must avoid sharing their bank account details to others.

Women of the city fear talking to strangers on mobile after APSRTC conductor P Srinivasa Rao (39) and resident of Ajit Singh Nagar, P Samuel (30) harassed nearly 200 women in city with vulgar messages from as many as 32 sim cards.

Vasavya Mahila Mandali president Chennupati Vidya urged for women to register a case in police station if any unknown person sends them vulgar or inappropriate messages. She also urged the police department officials to create awareness over the ill effects of social media.
