Land Rover has finally revealed the fifth generation Discovery at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The seven-seater SUV now comes with an all-aluminium lightweight constructions that saves 480 kgs compared to the outgoing Discovery. Land Rover is calling it “the best family SUV in the world” focusing on comfort, safety and adaptability.
The new exteriors might remind you of the smaller Discovery Sport from some angles but the new gen Discovery is much bigger and comes with a unique design. The Discovery doesn’t look boxy anymore and the front profile of the new SUV reveals an aggressive looking bumper with new LED headlamps.
The side profile gets a clean design while the rear house a new set of LED tail lamps. You might notice a slightly raised roof towards the back, it is meant to carve out more headroom for the stadium style seating. There are three rows of seats in the new Discovery and each row is positioned higher than the one in the front.
There are 7 individual seats for the passengers and the cool part is that you can configure the seat positioning through your smartphone. You can also configure the seats using the infotainment system or rear controls. The dashboard has a minimalistic design which looks simple yet classy and is inspired from the elder sibling, Range Rover.
The 10 inch infotainment touchscreen system offers numerous connectivity options including Android, iOS and can connect with nine USB ports. It has a 14-speaker Meridian digital surround system. The 2017 Land Rover Discovery is available with 17 different colour options to choose from. It has a massive 283 mm of adjustable ground clearance and a wading depth capacity of whopping 900 mm.
Some of the off-road tech includes Hill Descent Control, Gradient Release Control, Electronic Traction Control, Roll Stability Control, Wade Sensing, Hitch Assist, Trailer Stability Assist plus an Electrically Deployable Towbar and Nose Load Measurement system.
The new generation Discovery will get powered by a range of V6 petrol and diesel engines along with a lighter 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine. It is much more fuel efficient than the outgoing model and offers better acceleration. Land Rover will be launching the new Discovery in India later next year.
