A workshop was organised by Vijayawada chapter of the Institute of Engineers of India (IEI) on the occasion of World Environment Day 2016, here at KL Rao Bhavan., A Satyanarayana addressed the gathering on ‘Environmental Challenges and Illegal Trade in Wild Life’.

Addressing the gathering, A Satyanarayana, retired director of extension, Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University said that soil microbial activity and soil fertility need to be taken more seriously. Greater attention to plant roots is need of the hour. Motivating benefits are need for change.

“The 20th century modern agriculture producing grains are possible with increased inputs like fertilisers; pesticides, water, etc are now giving diminishing returns, creating environmental hazards, health risks, rise in cost of production, and declined efficiency,” Satyanarayana said.

Vice Chancellor of JNTU (K), Prof. VSS Kumar explained the importance of multidisciplinary projects that implies coordination of disciplines in the streams of engineering education. He urged the students who are pursuing Civil, Mechanical EEE and ECE groups to approach a problem coherently with inter disciplinary motivation. Protection of trees as part of environmental sustenance assumes highest priority.

Faculty and students interested in research can make use of the funds available in order to emerge with projects and solutions to the public, which can be adapted. District Forest Officer PJ Banerjee opined that trees should be guarded from Deforestation.

He showed the example of a road constructed saving the tree and converting the road in a different fashion, so that it assumes an attractive design safeguarding both the tree and passage of traffic.

Honorary president of local center G V Srinivasulu, committee member V Radha Krishna, former chairman P Ravindra Babu, engineers and industrialists along with research scholars, students and teachers were present during the workshop.
