According to sources, the division of road works is as follows: Adilabad Assembly constituency – 62.1 kms in four works; Boath – 57.4 kms in 7 works; Asifabad 65.85 kms in five works; and Sirpur (T) five works. In addition, three works in Khanapur segment, four in Mudhole segment; three in Nirmal segment; three in Bellampalli segment; two in Chennur segment and six works in Mancherial segment were proposed. Totally, 534.12 km panchayat roads were proposed in the district .
After preparing plans for panchayat roads, the works have to be approved by the respective Gram Panchayat Offices. These proposals have to be sent to Zilla Parishad (ZP) office for its approval. After getting clearance from ZP office, the proposals would be sent to State level officials and they will send the proposals for Union Government for the sanction of funds. Now, the proposals for 534 km rural roads construction were sent to State Government.
In the past, works taken up under PMGSY were going at snail’s pace due to certain conditions laid down by the Centre to take up the works. However, following representations from panchayat officials, the Centre has amended certain conditions. With the changes, the works can be speeded up in the second phase. The pending works in the first phase can be taken up in the second phase. Road works can be taken up by linking two or three villages or linking some major panchayats as per new norms. Villagers express hopes that works can be speeded up under new guidelines.
