Adilabad: The 67th Independence Day was celebrated in the district with patriotic fervor on Thursday. Flags were hoisted in all the villages and people cutting across party lines participated in large numbers. The district in-charge Minister Basavaraju Saraiah, who was the chief guest, hoisted the national flag and took the guard of honour from the police at the parade grounds in the city. Later, the minister visited a photo-exhibition stall in which the social welfare programs being implemented by the State Government were displayed.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that it was the responsibility of the concerned officials to ensure that the welfare programmes reach the beneficiaries. He said that both the Central and the State governments were committed to the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden and they were spending crores of rupees for the purpose. The district administration should work with commitment and dedication, he said.
The Minister said that the credit for implementing the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Sub-Plan should go to the Congress. He said that the government was taking all steps for all-round development of the district. He gave away commendation certificates to the employees. District Collector Babu A, Superintendent of Police S Tripathi, MP Ramesh Rathod, MLA Jogu Ramesh, DCC President C Ramachandra Reddy, MLAs Venugopalachari and Suman Rathod, Joint Collector Sujatha Sharma and others were present.
Nizamabad: Minister for Major Irrigation P Sudarshan Reddy hoisted the national flag at the 67th Independence Day celebrations in the presence of In-charge Collector K Harshavardhan at the Police Parade Grounds here on Thursday.
Delivering his Independence Day speech, the Minister stated that the government was implementing several welfare programmes for all- round development of the people in the district.
“Under ‘Amma Hastham’ scheme nine essential commodities are supplied to white ration card holders at cheaper rates and 9,000 metric tonnes of rice is provided to the 5.54 lakh beneficiaries through ration shops every month. Around 13,000 toilets have been constructed in rural areas under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan programme, and 87,000 houses have been built for beneficiaries of Indiramma Housing Scheme in three phases,’’ Mr Sudarshan Reddy explained.
Interest free loans worth Rs 10 crore were sanctioned to 26,665 Self Help Groups and around 49,000 need patients were provided free treatment in private hospitals under Rajiv Arogyasri scheme, he added. Speaking about the irrigation in the district, the Minister said that irrigation projects such as Sriram Sagar, Pocharam and Ali Sagar received good inflows and water would be available to irrigate 1.90 lakh acres during the Kharif season.
Leaders of Congress Party, TDP and TRS celebrated the Independence Day by unfurling the national flags at their respective offices.
Khammam: Horticulture Minister Ramreddy Venkat Reddy hoisted the national flag at the Police Parade Grounds in the city. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that Khammam district had a geographical and historical significance.
The country had attained independence because of sacrifices of many people and it was our duty to safeguard the hard won independence, he added. Commenting on the recent Godavari floods, Mr Ramreddy Venkat Reddy said that the people in the district, especially in the Agency areas suffered a lot.
The government was taking all possible steps for relief and rehabilitation of the flood-hit people, he added. Cultural programmes were held in which large number of students participated despite the heavy rain. Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Project Officer G Veerapandian hoisted the national flag at Bhadrachalam. Addressing the gathering he said that measures are being taken to ensure social and economic development of tribal people and to provide them education, health care and livelihood opportunities in the Agency areas. Performances by tribal students enthralled the audience on the occasion.
Karimnagar: Minster for Civil Supplies D Sridhar Bau called upon the people to always remember the sacrifices made by great leaders for attainting independence to the country. Speaking after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations at police parade grounds here, the Minister said that Karimnagar district was first in effective implementation of various welfare schemes in the State.
The government was encouraging farmers by providing them with required seeds, fertilizers and modern farm equipment in the district, he added. He received the Guard of Honour and gave away awards and commendation certificates to the employees of various government departments for their outstanding services. Collector M Veera Brahmaiah, Superintendent of Police V Ravinder, and others were present.
SCCL earns net profit of Rs 401 crore
Kothagudem: The Singareni Collieries earned profits worth Rs 401 crore during the year 2012-13. This was stated by the Director (Finance) S Vivekananda after hoisting the national flag on the occasion of 67th Independence Day celebrations. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the works relating to the construction of Singareni Power Project were in progress at Jayapur in Adilabad district.
He said that efforts would be taken to make the Company more transparent. Mr. Vivekananda said that steps were being taken to bring down the cost of electricity in the Singareni Company. He said with the rise in the price of diesel, the cost of coal production had shot up to a considerable extent and as such, there was a need to regulate the costs of production. The APHMEL, an affiliated organization of the Singareni Collieries had earned profits worth Rs. 7.76 crore, he said.
He said that the Company could produce only 14.83 million tonnes of coal during the financial year 2013-14 against the target of 54.3 million tonnes. He expressed the hope that there would be an increase in the production of coal this year. The Director presented commendation certificates and cash awards of Rs 1,000 to eight employees of the Company for their outstanding performance in the security department.
He also presented awards and commendation certificates to three students of Singareni schools for their excellent performance in academics. He also distributed sweets to the Singareni employees and their families. Several top functionaries of the Singareni collieries were present on the occasion.
