Uttar Pradesh: The Agra police arrested Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu on Tuesday evening for staging a protest on the border in the Taj city area. Lallu was protesting against the refusal of permission by the police to the movement of Congress buses. When the UP Congress chief insisted on taking the buses, he was physically shifted from the spot by the police and was arrested when he returned a short while later. The stand-off between the Congress and the Yogi Adityanath-led government continued on Wednesday.
Lallu and personal secretary to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sandeep Singh were also booked over the issue of the list of buses to transport migrant workers to their home state. The UP government stated that the list of buses offered by the Congress to ferry migrants contained registration numbers of cars, two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The UP government also said that several buses in the list provided by the Congress did not have a valid fitness certificate and requisite insurance papers.
UP Police also reportedly booked Lallu under the Epidemic Diseases Act in a fresh FIR.
The war of words between Congress and BJP continued on Wednesday even as a long line of buses was seen on the UP Rajasthan border awaiting clearance. The Congress accused the BJP government in the state of being insensitive to the issue of migrant workers, while the UP government claims that the Congress is trying to politicise the issue of migrants.
pic.twitter.com/MMtbRCiFtE
