The National Commission of Women has taken cognizance of reports of molestation of girl students in Gargi College in Delhi on February 6.
The National Commission of Women has taken cognizance of reports of molestation of girl students in Gargi College in Delhi on February 6. Chairperson of NCW, Rekha Sharma told the media on Monday morning that she had sent a team of NCW members to the Gargi College. Sharma remarked that she would be able to react at some length once she gets a report from her team members.
Gargi college students in Delhi claim that middle-aged men molested and manhandled them on February 6 during the course of their annual fest, while policemen did not act. Students on Monday began a protest against the college administration and police inaction.
Though the administration had allowed boy students from other colleges of Delhi University, the girls complained that it was not their peers but middle-aged women who barged into their campus.
Students of Gargi College took to social media to vent their grievances in the matter. While the police maintained that there was no official complaint, girl students said that they would lodge one for the authorities to act. They have also appealed to the media and political parties not to politicise the issue. Here's their official statement on Twitter:

Students accused the college administration of not deploying enough security personnel to safeguard the premises. They said that more than 100 middle-aged men barged into the college, passed lewd comments at the girls and molested many of them.
Meanwhile, Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said that he would raise the matter in the Parliament on Monday. He also took to Twitter to express his opinion in the matter and assure students:

गार्गी कॉलेज में हुई छात्राओं के साथ अभद्रता बहुत गंभीर मुद्दा है अगर भाजपा के अधीन आने वाले पुलिस दिल्ली में छात्राओं को सुरक्षित नही रख सकती तो भाजपा पूरे देश में महिला सुरक्षा कैसे दे पाएगी,पुलिस की लापरवाही पर तुरंत सख्त एक्शन होना चाहिए। @SanjayAzadSln @jainendrakumar pic.twitter.com/SgrI0Wk4Wv
