US President Donald Trump arrived in Ahmedabad on Monday for the first leg of his India trip.
Ahmedabad: Air Force One carrying President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania touched down at the Sardar Patel airport in Ahmedabad at about 11:37 AM on Monday morning. A short while later, the Trumps stepped out of the aircraft and were greeted on arrival by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat Governor, Acharya Devvrat state chief Minister Vijay Rupani, India's ambassador to the US Taranjit Sandhu and other dignitaries. Ivanka Trump, a senior adviser in the White House administration was the first among the family members to step down from Air Force One.
PM Modi greeted President Trump with a hearty hug and a warm handshake and then introduced him to the dignitaries present at the airport to greet him on his first visit to India.
The US President then received a Tri-services guard of honour even as dancers swung to folk tunes in the background.
People holding white petals lined the red carpet to shower them on the Trumps as they stepped down from the aircraft and walked on the tarmac. 'The Beast' which transports the US president all over the world, was kept ready for Donald Trump as he stepped down Air Force One.
A large press pool consisting of reporters from all over the world was also there to witness the welcome at the Sardar Patel airport in Ahmedabad.
Stringent security arrangements were in place coordinated by the US secret services and a host of other agencies. Vehicular traffic outside the airport has been stopped by the city police.

Donald Trump and PM Modi left for the Sabarmati Ashram as the roadshow kicked off from the airport to the Motera stadium for the mega 'Namaste Trump' event.
