The COVID-19 pandemic in India continues to register a daily surge with the countrywide tally jumping to 5,85,493 as per the latest update put out on Wednesday morning by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi add up to more than 60% of the viral load in the country, followed by Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Telangana--other states which have been contributing the most currently, to the coronavirus numbers in the country.
Maharashtra continues to see a sharp spike on a daily basis with 4,878 cases being reported on Tuesday. The state's COVID-19 tally has now climbed to 1,74,761 cases with 7,855 deaths. Maharashtra recorded 245 deaths on Tuesday. There are 75,995 active cases in the state while 90,911 recoveries have been reported.
Tamil Nadu is now the second worst-affected state in the country with an overall number of 90,167 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,201 deaths. On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu recorded 3,943 confirmed cases and 60 deaths. The state has reported 38,892 active cases and 50,074 recoveries.
Delhi reported 2,199 cases on Tuesday and 62 deaths from COVID-19. Delhi's overall tally has now risen to 87,360 and 2,742 deaths. There are 26,270 active cases in the national capital while 58,348 cases of recovered patients have been recorded.
Gujarat has reported an overall count of 32,557 COVID-19 cases and 1,846 deaths. On Tuesday, Gujarat recorded 620 fresh cases and 20 deaths. There are 7,049 active cases in the state, while 23,662 patients have recovered.
Uttar Pradesh's COVID-19 case count has now climbed to 23,492 confirmed coronavirus cases. 697 deaths have been reported from the state. The state recorded 664 fresh cases and 25 deaths on Tuesday. Uttar Pradesh has reported 6,711 active cases and 16,084 recoveries.
West Bengal has so far reported 18,559 cases of coronavirus with 668 deaths. 652 fresh COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths were recorded on Tuesday. The state has 5,761 active cases and 12,130 cases of recovered patients.
Rajasthan has recorded 18,014 confirmed coronavirus cases so far with 413 deaths.
Telangana, in spite of very low testing, as compared to other states, has been recording high numbers. The state tally stands at 16,339 and 260 deaths. On Tuesday, Telangana reported 945 fresh cases and 7 deaths.
Karnataka has recorded 15,242 confirmed COVID-19 cases with the total death count in the state now reaching 246.
Andhra Pradesh has been testing aggressively, as compared to neighbouring Telangana. The state has reported 14,595 confirmed cases and 187 deaths.
