New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal in his victory speech after being sworn in as the chief minister of Delhi for the third term hinted at a larger role for himself and his party on the national stage. Kejriwal appeared to be pitting himself against PM Narendra Modi as an alternative in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Arvind Kejriwal offered to work in cooperation with the Centre. He said that he was the chief minister of all sections of the national capital. The AAP chief pointed out that he had invited the prime minister to his swearing-in ceremony, but that he was probably busy with other engagements.

Kejriwal, in his victory speech at the Ramlila Maidan in the national capital, seemed to press all the right buttons. The AAP chief said that a new brand of politics had emerged on the national political landscape. Kejriwal remarked that Delhi had sent this message loud and clear to the nation.

The politics of development would determine the course of elections in the years to come, Arvind Kejriwal remarked. The AAP supremo pointed out that the country was sorely in need of politics based on development, reforms in education, healthcare and infrastructure.

Arvind Kejriwal broke into a song at the end, "hum honge kamyab" (victory will be ours) and asked the large crowd there to sing along with him. The song appeared to contain an inbuilt message.

Kejriwal is also projecting AAP as a national alternative with nationalism and patriotism as part of its narrative. The Delhi chief minister raised slogans of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Vande Mataram' at the end of his victory speech.
