Farmer, 53 years old from Idukki committed suicide on Thursday, allegedly as a result of financial issues. At his leased property in Panachikkuzhi near Rajakkadu, Rajendran of Sankupurathil House was discovered hanging in the morning

Rajendran's family claimed that financial debt compelled him to make such a drastic decision. Rajendran, who had previously lived in Societymedu in Bison Valley, recently relocated to Rajakkadu. Before moving, he sold his house and other property in Bison Valley.

He was cultivating cardamom on 6 acres of land that he had leased while residing in a rental home in Mullakkanam. The decline in cardamom prices, according to Rajendran's relatives, cost him money, making it impossible for him to make the lease payment. On Wednesday, Rajendran visited his field to pick pepper. When he didn't arrive home by night, his family started looking for him.

Meanwhile, 87.5% of the suicides in the farming industry occurred in seven states throughout the nation. They are Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. Out all these states, Maharashtra displays the greatest numbers. Marginal farmers are not the only ones that commit suicide. Even small farmers are taking their own lives. According to reports, Maharashtra saw a total of 1,875 farmer suicides during the months of January and August in 2022.
