Hanumakonda: Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Friday said the state corporations are undertaking a programme to construct Indiramma Towers for the poor, and as part of that, the construction of Indiramma Towers in Warangal-Hanumakonda will also be considered. The Minister added that the Housing Board Colony One-Time Settlement issue will be examined and necessary steps will be taken.

The Minister made this statement after Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy, while speaking in the Assembly, made an appeal to the government to construct more houses for the urban poor. Naini said that special steps must be taken to solve the housing problems of the poor and middle class people in the Hanumakonda urban area. He said there is shortage of land for house construction in urban areas and urged the government to provide the people homes by constructing multi-storey buildings.

The MLA said that the houses in the Housing Board Colony built 40-50 years ago in Warangal - Hanumakonda have now reached a dilapidated state. This colony, which has about a thousand houses, is in a key area of the city, it needs to be redeveloped according to current needs. He urged the government to consider whether to modernise the old houses or build modern multi-storey towers in their place.

Naini suggested that redeveloping the colony in the form of towers would provide houses to more residents in the same place and give the colony a modern look. He said that although the Housing Board had issued notices under one-time settlement to some beneficiaries of the colony, some could not pay the dues due to financial difficulties. He requested that such people be given another opportunity and one-time settlement facility be provided.

The MLA requested that multi-storey houses be constructed for the poor who do not have access to Housing Board sites in all the corporations in the state on the lines of Indiramma Towers being undertaken in Hyderabad. He appealed that Indiramma Towers should also be sanctioned for the Warangal-Hanumakonda area and the deserving poor should be provided with their own homes.
