Hanamkonda: Minister for Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao has faced bitter experience when he went to Kakatiya University (KU) on Sunday to pay tributes to Savitribai Phule on her 190th birth anniversary. The ABVP activists, who have prior information about the Minister's visit to the varsity, tried to gherao his convoy near KU gate.

Shouting 'Go Back Minister', the protestors accused the leaders of ignoring the issues faced by the students. Tension prevailed for some time, but the police swung into action and arrested the protestors, thus allowing the Minister, Chief Whip D Vinay Bhaskar and other people's representatives to pay tributes to Savitribai Phule. Later in a statement, the ABVP activists said the people's representatives have no moral right to enter the university campus as they didn't do anything to address the problems in the varsity.

The State universities left to their fate with the government failing to appoint the Vice-chancellors, and to fill the vacant posts, teaching and non-teaching, the ABVP State Secretary Ambala Kiran said. The government, which intentionally ignored the State varsities, paved red carpet for the private universities, belonging to TRS people's representatives – Ch Malla Reddy and Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, he added.

Kiran alleged that the government was conspiring to deny higher education to the students who come from poor backdrop. The demands put forward by the ABVP are… Allocation of funds to universities; Filling of all vacant posts in the State service; Action against Malla Reddy University management for submitting forged documents to the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
