GVMC officials conducting special inspections against shopkeepers in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg stated that stringent action has been initiated against shops and commercial establishments violating sanitation regulations, dumping waste on roads, in drains and at public places across the city.
The Commissioner informed that 58 shops were sealed and penalties amounting to Rs.4.36 lakh were imposed for various sanitation violations during special inspections conducted across all GVMC zones on October 8. Commissioner Ketan Garg stated that GVMC gives top priority to maintaining cleanliness and sanitation across the city. Officials conducted special inspections across all 10 zones under GVMC jurisdiction and initiated enforcement action against commercial establishments violating sanitation regulations.
Following inspections, two shops were sealed in Bheemili Zone, with penalties amounting to Rs 40,000, 16 shops in Madhurawada Zone, with penalties of Rs 94,000, 14 shops in East Zone, with penalties of Rs 43,000, 8 shops in north zone, with penalties of Rs 55,500, and 2 shops in south zone, with penalties of Rs 58,500. Also, several other shops were sealed in Pendurthi, Gajuwaka, Aganampudi and Anakapalli zones and penalties were levied.
The Commissioner further informed that a total of 80 inspections were conducted across the 10 zones, resulting in the sealing of 58 shops and the imposition of penalties, while penalties were imposed on another 22 establishments without sealing them. He explained that these enforcement measures were taken against violations such as dumping waste in public places, using prohibited plastic materials and other breaches of sanitation regulations.
The Commissioner cautioned shopkeepers and commercial establishments not to dispose of waste generated from their premises on roads, in drains or at public places and told them to collect litter in dustbins and hand it over to CLAP vehicles every day. He reiterated that negligence in maintaining cleanliness would not be tolerated and stringent action will be taken against those violating sanitation regulations.
Ketan Garg appealed to commercial establishments, shopkeepers and the general public to extend their cooperation to GVMC in maintaining a clean, hygienic and litter-free Visakhapatnam.
