Protest by ward and village secretariat employees intensifies’

Visakhapatnam: The protest staged by ward and village secretariat employees intensified on Sunday after hundreds joined a road blockade on the final day of their agitation. They had been peacefully demonstrating at the GVMC Gandhi statue in the city for the past three days.

Secretariat employees from six districts of North Andhra under zone-I participated in the protest, demanding the government resolve their long-pending issues. As part of intensifying their agitation, the employees squatted on the road and disrupted traffic, causing severe inconvenience to motorists.

Following information about the road blockade, East ACP Lakshmana Murthy rushed to the spot and attempted to bring the situation under control and persuade the protesters to clear the road.

The employees demanded regularisation of eligible employees, removal of disparities in salaries and sought timely promotions and transfers, and the resolution of issues related to probation declaration and confirmation of services. They also sought a clear career progression policy and better implementation of welfare measures.

The protesters said that despite repeatedly bringing their problems to the notice of the authorities, several issues remained unresolved. They warned that the agitation would continue and could be intensified if the government failed to take steps to address their demands.

As part of the state-wide agitation, ward and village secretariat employees from six districts of North Andhra under zone-I participated in the three-day protest programme at the GVMC Gandhi statue, demanding an immediate resolution to their problems. They demanded increments, probation payments, job security and benefits of the automatic advancement scheme.
