Naidu to lay stone and inaugurate five projects in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will lay foundation stone and inaugurate key projects during his ensuing visit to Visakhapatnam scheduled on September 19.

Elaborate arrangements are in place at Andhra University Engineering College grounds where the Chief Minister will distribute house site pattas to eligible beneficiaries.

As part of his tour, Naidu will launch five key water supply and infrastructure projects worth Rs.1,838 crore undertaken by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).

Of the five projects, the Chief Minister will lay foundation stone for the Rs.725-crore 24/7 water supply project, Rs.117-crore modernisation of bulk and semi-bulk water supply connections, Rs.150-crore dedicated industrial water supply pipeline, and Rs.400-crore water supply and sewerage works taken up under AMRUT 2.0.

Also, the Chief Minister will inaugurate NRW Reduction and 24/7 water supply project taken up at a cost of Rs.446 crore, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg informed.

Of the five GVMC projects, foundation stones are proposed to be laid for four, while one is ready for inauguration. As part of the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF), a 24/7 water supply system will be established in Madhurawada Zone and its adjoining areas at a cost of Rs.725 crore. The initiative aims to modernise water supply infrastructure in these areas and facilitate continuous water supply to residents. The Rs 117-crore project for the rehabilitation and improvement of existing bulk and semi-bulk water supply connections through advanced metering, automation and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) will facilitate centralised monitoring of various operations in the water supply network, data collection, and more efficient management of the water distribution system.

A dedicated industrial water supply pipeline will be developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode from the Narava Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to HPCL and other industries along the port road at a cost of Rs 150 crore under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0. In addition, five water supply works and two sewerage works are being undertaken at a cost of Rs.400 crore to improve water supply and sewerage infrastructure in the city.

The Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Reduction and 24/7 Water Supply System project in GVMC’s North-West Sector focuses on reducing leakages and other water losses in the supply network. This NRW reduction initiative improves the efficiency of the water distribution system and provides better services to consumers.

Given the city’s expansion and increasing domestic and industrial requirements, the five key projects taken up under UCF, AMRUT 2.0, PPP mode along with others have been initiated to modernise Visakhapatnam’s water supply system.
