Visakhapatnam: More number of facilities will be made available to people in 2021, Commissioner of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) G Srijana said.

Briefing the annual report at a media conference here on Thursday, she said development works were undertaken at a cost of Rs 110 crore in the year 2020-21.

Similarly, various works are in progress as part of the smart city projects. "In line with this, 61 works were proposed at a cost of Rs 940 crore. Of them, Rs 83 crore valued works were completed," she explained.

The GVMC commissioner mentioned that through the Town Planning wing, Rs.71 crore of income was earned this year.

Owing to the rains and the coronavirus pandemic, many works could not be completed within stipulated time, the Municipal Commissioner informed. "But now engineering works have picked up. Multi Level Car Parking (MLCP) will be introduced as the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh. Waste energy plant, modernised VUDA Park and town hall will be made available to the public by February," Srijana explained. Similarly, the pipeline works are being expedited to improve the water supply. Municipal Commissioner said GVMC will play a key role in implementing welfare schemes introduced by the state government. Speaking about unauthorised constructions, she said, a large number of illegal structures were identified and demolished in recent times. She urged the public to cooperate with the officials concerned to build a better city in future.
