Visakhapatnam: Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has been selected for two coveted state-level awards in the ‘Swachha Andhra Awards–2026’.
The awards are for the ‘Swachha Municipalities Award’ in the urban local bodies’ category (population above three lakh) and for the ‘Swachha government offices’ category.
Also, Y Nagaraju of GVMC west zone has been selected for the state-level award in the ‘Swachhata Warriors’ category.
Expressing delight over the achievement, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said that the Swachha Andhra Corporation officially communicated the award selections and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will present the awards on ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ at the ‘Swachha Andhra Awards–2026’ state-level presentation ceremony scheduled for October 2 in Vijayawada.
At the district-level, the Commissioner informed that several individuals, organisations and associations working extensively toward cleanliness and sanitation maintenance in GVMC limits have also been selected for awards in various categories.
As part of the ‘Swachha SLFs’ category, KRM Colony SLF has been selected for the award; Green Climate team, Swantana Seva Samithi and Pendurthi Terrace Garden Society have been selected in ‘Best Swachhata NGOs’ category.
In the ‘Best Swachhata Warriors (sanitation workers)’ category, Bangari Prasad of GVMC north zone, B Sai Sankar Rao of south zone, P Satyavathi of Gajuwaka zone and G Koteswari of east zone got selected for the district-level awards, while Sri Tirumala Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association is selected for the district-level award in ‘Swachha Colonies’ category.
The awardees and representatives of the organisations and agencies will receive the district-level awards at the Swachha Andhra District-level Awards Presentation Ceremony to be held at VMRDA Children’s Arena on Friday.
“It’s a matter of immense pride that the GVMC, organisations and individuals got selected for the state and district level awards.
The recognition pushes GVMC’s standards several notches up and indicates the collective efforts of the GVMC officials, sanitation workers, Swachhata Warriors, voluntary organisations, associations and the citizens of Visakhapatnam,” Commissioner emphasised, calling upon people to continue working with the same spirit to make Visakhapatnam a cleaner and healthier city.
