Vijayawada: World Ozone Day was observed with a series of awareness programmes at schools, colleges and other educational institutions across NTR district on Wednesday, with students taking part in activities highlighting the importance of protecting the ozone layer and the environment.

At PM SHRI MK Baig Municipal Corporation High School in Ajit Singh Nagar, around 150 students prepared and displayed charts, posters and placards on ozone protection. APCOST chairman Dr Sravan Kumar, who attended as the chief guest, explained the vital role played by the ozone layer in protecting the Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation.

NTR District Education Officer L Chandrakala urged students to understand the impact of climate change, rising temperatures and air pollution. She called upon them to make environmental protection part of their daily lives by planting trees, saving electricity, reducing plastic use and adopting eco-friendly practices.

Education officials Tadavarthi Shyam Prasad and Banavath Venkateswarlu, headmaster Mynam Hussain, teachers and staff participated in the programmes. At PM SHRI ZP High School, Nunna, students formed a human formation in the shape of the ozone chemical formula, O₃, which became a major attraction. They later took out an awareness rally through the village and planted saplings on the school premises.
