Tirupati: DGP Gautam Sawang exhorts police personnel to improve competency

Tirupati: DGP Gautam Sawang on Tuesday signed MoUs with Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation and the Indian Institute of Design Technology-Tirupati on the sidelines of Andhra Pradesh's first State police duty meet being held at the AR Grounds here.
The DGP termed it as a historic moment for the police department to have signed back to back MoUs with the centres of excellence such as the IIT-Tirupati, IISER, IIDT-Tirupati and the APSSDC.
Partnerships with such premier institutions will help enhance the technical capabilities of the police personnel in the digital era where changes take place continuously. "Unlike in the past the police personnel have to constantly learn and strive to equip themselves with the latest technological advancements to effectively tackle cybercrimes which have been on the rise globally," said Gautam Sawang.
Pointing out that the Andhra Pradesh police department has won 108 awards and has been a frontrunner in constantly adopting the latest technologies in effectively tackling crimes, the DGP called upon the State police force to strive towards complete professionalism by building their competency levels.
Meanwhile, as part of Ignite: 2021, a special session on the recent trends in cybercrime and security was held on Tuesday morning. Ch D Tirumala Rao, DGP, Railways, called upon the youngsters to update their knowledge on the recent trends in cybercrime and security and protect themselves as well as their loved ones.
GR Radhika, SP, cybercrimes, CID, shared her insight on the recent trends in cybercrimes and how the online miscreants have been constantly on the prowl to trap the vulnerable.
Prasad Patibandla who works as a Director at the Centre for research on cyber intelligence and digital forensics and M Jagadish Babu who works as a project manager at ISEA, C-DAC, Hyderabad shared their technical knowledge on various aspects including categories of cybercrimes, types of cyber criminals, internet data misuse by criminals, technology driven crimes against women etc along with case studies.
One more session was held as part of the symposium at the IGNITE:2021 venue which threw light on "Cyber Hygiene" later in the day.
Guntur rural SP Vishal Gunni supervised an interactive session with young officers and on career prospects in police in the evening.
Braving incessant downpour, the demo by the SWAT teams comprising over 160 personnel enthralled the students and other locals of the temple city on Tuesday evening.
