Tirupati: An MBBS student from Hyderabad was arrested by Alipiri police on Friday for allegedly threatening a young woman with the circulation of her private photographs and videos after she refused to convert to his religion for marriage.
The accused, Rayeed (24) of Akbar Bagh in Malakpet, allegedly threatened to send the intimate material to the woman’s relatives and post it on social media if she did not agree to his demand, police said.
According to the complaint, Rayeed and the woman met while studying medicine in Georgia and later entered into a relationship. He allegedly established a physical relationship with her and later called her to a private hotel in Tirupati. When the woman questioned him about marriage, he allegedly insisted that she convert to his religion. After she refused, he allegedly threatened to make their private photographs and videos public.
Following the complaint, a police team led by Alipiri CI Ram Kishore traced Rayeed to his residence in Malakpet and arrested him. He was brought to Tirupati and produced before a local court. Police seized his Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra mobile phone and sent it for forensic examination as part of the investigation.
Tirupati SP L Subba Rayudu said the safety of women remained a priority for the police. He advised students staying away from their families to exercise caution while dealing with online acquaintances and avoid sharing private photographs or videos.
Police urged victims of cyber blackmail or harassment to seek immediate help through Dial 112, the cybercrime helpline 1930 or the cybercrime.gov.in portal.
