R&B Minister Vemula Prashant Reddy inaugurated Rythu Vedika, late Vemula Surender Reddy Memorial, at Velpur mandal headquarters on Tuesday. Niranjan Reddy, the chief guest on the occasion, recalled his 30-year long association with late Vemula Surender Reddy. Pointing out that the TRS government had implemented welfare schemes that were not mentioned in the manifesto, he said apart from providing input subsidy to farmers, various facilities were provided to them during corona-induced lockdown. With the advice of agronomists and experts, a controlled farming system has been introduced, he reminded.
Suggesting farmers to take up alternative crops, he said there is a bright future for sugarcane crop in future. He observed that crops should be cultivated, which have market demand, so that farmers would get better price.
Minister Prashant Reddy said 104 farmer platforms were sanctioned to the district and 95 were completed. Under SRSP revival scheme, Rs 1,200 crore were spent to bring Kaleswaram
water through flood canal, he added.
Gattupodichina Vagu was modernised with Rs 12 crore. State Rythu Bandhu Samiti president Palle Rajeshwar Reddy said SRSP has water reserves to provide for three crops and the government will buy cotton crop from the farmers.
Collector C Narayana Reddy, MP BB Patil, Zilla Parishad Chairman Vittal Rao, public representatives, officials and others were present.
