Suryapet: Six persons, including five women died and at least 12 others were injured when a private EV bus they were travelling in hit a truck in Suryapet district on Wednesday morning, police said. The incident occurred in Kodad mandal on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway at around 5.15 am when the private travels bus, carrying 42 passengers, proceeding to Eluru in Andhra Pradesh from Hyderabad, rammed the truck from the rear side, they said based on preliminary investigation. "Six persons, including five women, died in the accident. At least 12 others were injured and shifted to different hospitals," a police official said. Suryapet District Superintendent of Police K Narasimha told reporters that the truck was carrying heavy pillars used for industrial purposes. As the bus hit the truck, the chain tied to secure the pillars got snapped and they hit the right side of the bus.

This led to the deaths of those seated in the front, he said. The condition of two injured persons was serious, and they were rushed to a hospital in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, the SP said. The private travel bus, operated by Abhi Travels, was heading towards Eluru from Hyderabad at the time of the accident. Officials identified 42 passengers as being on board. Preliminary reports suggest that the container lorry had lost control near Dwarakunta and crashed into the divider, before the bus rammed it.

The deceased have been identified as Yasarepu Chinni of Pulluru village in A. Konduru mandal of NTR district, Mary Josna (29) of Vijayawada, Keshavulu Nagendra Babu of Padamati Lanka, and Surarapu Shakeena of Autonagar. Police said the identities of two other deceased passengers are yet to be established.

The injured passengers, identified as Chandana, Bhavani, Yashwanth, Vital, Manohar, Anil Kumar, Dhruva, Jaisingh Kumar, Vijayalakshmi, Ramanamma, Sudhakar, Naveen Kumar, Avinash and Vamsi, were shifted to the Kodad Government Area Hospital for treatment.

Police reached the accident site, registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the death of six people in the accident. Revanth Reddy conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families.
