Congress created artificial drought in State: Jagadish Reddy

Suryapet: Former minister and Suryapet MLA Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy said that the state is undoubtedly facing an artificial drought created by the Congress government.

He held a preparatory meeting with key party leaders at the BRS office in Suryapet district headquarters to explain the protest programmes being organised by the BRS against what he described as the Congress government’s 1,000 days of failed rule.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Jagadish Reddy said the government was ignoring the plight of the farming community despite repeated appeals from farmers. Expressing anguish, he alleged that the Congress government was ruining Telangana’s farming community, just as a snake kills its own offspring.

He said that BRS working president KT Rama Rao and other BRS leaders had clearly demonstrated how Krishna and Godavari waters were flowing into the sea. Although the Central Water Commission had clarified that the Sundilla and Annaram barrages were safe, the government had allegedly allowed 150 TMC of Godavari water to go waste into the sea during the past 75 days, he claimed.

Jagadish Reddy alleged that Krishna water was being illegally diverted only with the permission of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He said the Nagarjuna Sagar gates were raised slightly only because of pressure from the BRS. While officials were advising farmers to cultivate short-duration crops, no minister was giving clarity on how much water would actually be supplied, he said.

He further alleged that the government was deliberately creating hurdles by anticipating demands from farmers for seeds, fertilisers, electricity and bonuses. He said the ministerial positions secured by two ministers from the erstwhile united district were a result of the support given to them by canal-dependent farmers. Jagadish Reddy questioned why the ministers lacked the courage even to ask why water was being supplied to the right canal but not to the left canal. He made it clear that the BRS would not stop its fight until justice was fully delivered to farmers under the leadership of K Chandrashekar Rao.

Former MP Badugu Lingayya Yadav, BRS state secretary Y Venkateshwarlu, key constituency leaders and public representatives attended the meeting.
