Gachibowli: The most prestigious Durgam Cheruvu suspension bridge will be thrown open by November 25 for the citizens to walk. With the civil works of the cable bridge coming to an end, officials hope that the bridge will be thrown open to pedestrians in a week.
The Rs 187 crore project was launched in 2017. All the civic has completed its civil works and the GHMC official says more two months needed for inauguration.
Venkataramana, Superintendent Engineer, GHMC, said, "The civil works on the 764-metre long suspension bridge concluded. As many as 26 cables have been installed and 52 segments connected and only a segment which joints the bridge is left for installation.
Cable bridge which is the country's longest in its category is almost ready for use. From November 25 citizens can walk on the Hyderabad's first cable bridge. However, they need to wait for two more months to ply their vehicles on the bridge. The construction final stage works are underway and in full swing."
Posting the latest photos of the hanging bridge in a social site, KT Rama Rao, the IT & Municipal Administration Minister, congratulated the team and praised the team of engineers and workers involved in the construction of cable bridge. He said the Hyderabad's first Cable bridge was fast nearing completion.
Out of 53 blocks, only three are to be fixed as part of the project. Two blocks were simultaneously fixed on Saturday by using modern technology and the spot will be a tourist destination. The bridge will reduce travel distance and greatly ease traffic woes near BR Ambedkar University, Inorbit Mall, Madhapur, Hi-Tec City and Jubilee Hills.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and L&T together are involved in the project which benefits people traveling to Mind space and Financial District from Jubilee hills as they will get the alternative fast route.
Apart from easing traffic woes in the bustling IT corridor, when ready, the bridge promises to become a major landmark for the city. It is going to be the longest suspension bridge in the cable stayed bridge category in the country. It reduces 2.5 to 3 km to reach Hi-Tec City and Mind Space by avoiding the busy Madhapur road.
