Venkatapuram Division: Officials, netas grossly
With 40,753 voters, this division covers major areas such as Maruthi Nagar, Kalyanpuri Colony, Bhudevi Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Venugopal Nagar, Venkatapuram of Alwal circle (GHMC).
Hyderabad: With 40,753 voters, this division covers major areas such as Maruthi Nagar, Kalyanpuri Colony, Bhudevi Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Venugopal Nagar, Venkatapuram of Alwal circle (GHMC). This SC reserved division (135) is being represented by Corporator Sabitha Kishore since 2016, after she won on the TRS ticket with 10,661 votes against the nearest rival MC Jagadish of BJP who polled 3,072 votes.
Residents of Venkatapuram division have been ruing lack of basic amenities for the past several years. Almost all the lanes in this division are still without sewerage facility. Most of the internal lanes are not carpeted. Other problems include irregular water supply and lack of streetlights. Developmental works like Venkatapurum bridge and box drain construction remain pending. Residents allege that due to the apathetic attitude of the local corporator and the GHMC officials, the ward has been lagging behind nearby divisions in terms of development.
Adding fuel to the existing civic issues, the lanes are plunged into darkness due to lack of street lights. It is completely dark in the evenings, which causes inconvenience to the commuters to travel. Also the division's electric connection remains double phase or single phase units and there are increasing demands for upgradation to the three-phase power supply. "We are forced to face all these problems, as GHMC officials never pay heed to our pleas. Apart from this, there are also regular power cuts even during normal days. On the other hand, during the day time it can be seen that street lights remain on in some lanes", said Sai Kiran ,resident of Bharati Nagar.
"Several promises were made by the corporator Sabitha Kishore but none has been fulfilled. Apart from that, because of an open and narrow nala at West Venkatapuram, even moderate rainfall results in the lanes getting flooded. Almost all the roads in the ward need re-carpeting and also garbage is being dumped on the roadside. It is not being regularly cleared by the GHMC sanitation workers," complained N Rao, resident of West Venkatapuram.
