Unique theme park in concrete jungle at Malakpet

Malakpet: Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala lauded the efforts of residents of MCH colony in Old Malakpet for the upkeep of the theme park, which has hundreds of palm trees. During his early morning visit on Monday, he found this to be one of the unique lung spaces which continues to attract visitors from distant localities.
The MLA, along with Mohammed Saifuddin Shafi, party leader, also met with the senior citizens and visitors at park named as 'Palmetum Park.' Later, he inspected the park and commended the efforts of the Park's Association for proper maintenance, as it remains one of the unique parks in city, which has more than 250 of palm trees growing at single place.
According to locals, the park is opened to public from 5 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 7 pm, where daily more than 300 visitors visit it for walking, jogging and for seeking peaceful atmosphere, eco-friendly environment and fresh air. "Palmetum Park is a specialised botanical garden in Malakpet, it's a unique theme park in the city with surrounded by only palm trees and greenery with zero pollution and a peaceful atmosphere," informed one of the members of Park Association.
Officially, the Palmetum park was started in 2002 by the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad. The park comprises 250 palm trees of 120 variants which are brought from 103 countries. Later, GHMC adopted the park and on the representation of Malakpet MLA, it was renovated by providing fencing and other maintenance works with an amount of Rs 4.55 lakh in 2017. Since then, the park remained well-maintained.

The park is a great place for children to explore and understand different types of palm trees.
A placard containing brief information about the trees and its varieties is placed near the trees.
History
The Park was started in 2002 by Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad. Palm trees were obtained from Malaysia, Madagascar and 103 countries across the world. The Park has bagged the second prize in the Garden Festival held in 2012. The garden brings in an aromatic fragrance and the beauty of nature is so amazing.
