Telangana: Cargo & parcel services throw lifeline to TSRTC

Hyderabad: The inter-State cargo and parcel services started by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is fetching good response, as it is getting a revenue of more than Rs 1 lakh a day from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

According to RTC officials, it has been 20 days since the inter-State cargo and parcel services were started. The unit has been earning more than Rs 1 lakh every day, with 1,000 to 1,500 parcels. The items shipped through cargo services are spare parts, betel leaves, coriander.

The services are bound to improve further with increase in business post Corona situation. The TSRTC started parcel and cargo services on June 19 this year. Parcel and courier business started at 147 bus station locations.

According to an official, the cargo and parcel services would soon be reaching two million parcels. "Till now the cargo and parcel services have moved 15.5 lakh parcels. In the coming fortnight, they will touch two million," said a senior official. The unit is earning a revenue of Rs 17 lakh to Rs 18 lakh, he added. The total revenue earned in December was Rs 4.5 crore.

The official said that so far, after the launch of cargo and parcel service, the unit earned Rs 20 crore, including Rs 15 crore in cargo and Rs 5 crore in parcel. "The unit has been revenue earning one. The earlier parcel service provider used to give Rs 2 lakh a day to the corporation, but now the unit was earning Rs 18 lakh, which is a positive sign for the debt-ridden corporation," he stated. While removing 25 per cent of the earnings for expenditure like 'hamali' charges, driver, remaining is income for the corporation, the official added.

The corporation had recently started door delivery of parcel services for the people of the City. It entered into an agreement with three agencies which have experience in home delivery. The agencies include Dunzo Digital Pvt Ltd, Smart Ship Logistics Pvt Ltd and Adnigam Pvt Ltd.

According to the official, the prices for a parcel up to 10 kg would be Rs 80, 11-30 kg Rs 150, 31-50 kg Rs 225 and 51 kg to 100 kg Rs 300.
