Students violence on the upswing, parents worried

Chandanagar: Many groups of students from various educational institutions are allegedly resorting to rude behaviour against one another by passing comments and indulging in fisticuffs and exchanging blows on the main roads of the town.

Such incidents, besides pushing and pulling, have been happening almost daily after 5 pm on the streets, provoked by alleged comments by either rivals or friends. They have become a regular feature at the local bus-stand.

One such recent incident of assault involving students went to the notice of the parents. Calm was restored following the intervention of teachers. Local residents and street vendors are a worried lot wondering to what extent such rows among students would be stretched.

Interestingly, there has been a criticism that local police doing patrolling seem to be indifferent to such incidents, although the police station is close to several educational institutions. Residents are worried of the consequence if the police and heads of institutions don't take preventive steps.
