Small parks provide big relief in colonies
While municipal officials faces criticism for not doing proper work on time, a lot of good work done by them is being ignored by the people.
Secunderabad: While municipal officials faces criticism for not doing proper work on time, a lot of good work done by them is being ignored by the people. Several areas that come under Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) were once abandoned spots where people dumped garbage and parked vehicles.
Today, these places have turned into lush beautiful gardens and parks in residential areas and colonies. After the Swachh Bharath drive, a lot of small areas have been taken up seriously. The Bolarum Park and Picket Gardens have been in limelight but many other small parks developed by the SCB are also a success.
"Earlier this area used to be a dumping yard for many people. It looked very bad and was a cause of bad stench and insects. Now our own children play in this park in from of our eyes." says Uma Rani, a resident from Venkataram Nagar Colony. "After the establishment of the park, it has been maintained well. Earlier we were not allowed to play on the roads as our parents were scared of vehicles. Now we spend most of out time in our park" says Atish, a student from Bowenpally.
These small parks have also served as an inspiration for the colony welfare associations. "A lot of colonies have started establishing small parks after endeavors by the Cantonment Board. It's indeed a very good initiative" said Amruta Sharma, a colony committee member from Tirumalagiri. Apart from parks, a few colony committees have put forward a proposal to establish colony librariy and book rooms as well.
The parks have been well-maintained and have all the equipment for the children as well as elderly. Many of the residents have started using the parks for having a good time. There are passages to walk and benches as well. Fresh plants and grass is watered regularly and is being maintained well by the SCB.
