Slum-level federations to take issues to GHMC notice
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to utilise the services of self-help groups to solve problems in Greater Hyderabad. Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin, Commissioner M Dana Kishore launched a programme of slum-level federation symbolically at GHMC head office here on Tuesday.
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to utilise the services of self-help groups to solve problems in Greater Hyderabad. Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin, Commissioner M Dana Kishore launched a programme of slum-level federation symbolically at GHMC head office here on Tuesday.
Additional Commissioner Sikta Patnaik, Zonal Commissioners Harichandana, Musharraf Ali, Srinivas Reddy and Shankaraiah, Vigilance Director Vishwajeet Kompati and other officials of GHMC were present at the occasion.
The city at present has 45,000 self-help groups and of them there are around 1,300 slum-level federations are there.
Slum-level federation presidents and representatives can call up GHMC helpline to complain about the problems which they are facing in their areas. They can inform about their problems such as sanitation maintenance, street dogs, streetlights issues, garbage on roads, use of plastic covers of less than 50 microns, drinking water problem and water wastage etc.
As soon as GHMC gets complaints from them, they would be taken to the notice of a zonal-level officer and the mobile number of the officer would be provided to the representatives. These representatives also have access to My GHMC app and the Prajavani programme.
A separate wing would be set up to review the action taken on the complaints received from the SLFs, the Commissioner said. He added that he would conduct a review of the redressal of their grievances every week. He said that strict actions would be taken against the officials whoever showed negligence in addressing the complaints made by the SLF representatives.
Commissioner said that SHGs would encourage the people to plant the saplings in each and every basti, ward, colony and create awareness about the segregation of the wet and dry waste. They would also sensitise the people about the wastage of water and Saaf-Shaandar Hyderabad initiatives.
