Hyderabad: BJP Legislature Party Leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy, who observed a day-long hunger strike, demanded the immediate removal of all lands placed under Section 22A, a comprehensive investigation into the fiasco, and the resignation of State Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. Addressing the farmers and people attending the BJP’s one-day Maha Dharna against Section 22A of Bhu Bharati on Saturday, he said the large turnout shows waning public trust in the Congress-led government in Telangana.
The BJPLP Leader launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and accused them of turning governance into a business. “Nearly one crore acres of private land are placed on the prohibited list under Section 22A,” he alleged. Maheshwar Reddy further alleged that officials were pressured to follow the minister’s directives and warned that, as in the BRS era, those blindly obeying such diktats will be held accountable when the BJP comes to power next in the state.
Maheshwar Reddy said that only 8 lakh acres were under Section 22A at the time of the state’s formation in 2014. He demanded that the government disclose the figures till 2023, when the Congress came to power, and the figures since then till date. He criticised CM Revanth Reddy for not releasing the forensic audit report to identify the officials who authorised the prohibited listings and make it public. He demanded a comprehensive probe or CBI investigation to fix responsibility.
