Hyderabad: The district educational officer of Hyderabad, R Rohini on Friday has issued an order that private schools (State, CBSE, ICSE) in Hyderabad are prohibited from requiring parents to purchase uniforms, shoes, belts, etc., directly from the school or within the school premises.

But issuing this order seems to be too late, as most of schools have already sold most of the items and even books were sold at double rates, pointed out parents.

As per the order, no school in Hyderabad district should sell uniforms, shoes, belts, etc. any further as per the court orders. The sale of books / notebooks / stationery items at the school counter, if any, should be on a non-commercial, no-profit-no-loss basis. This initiative aims to prevent parents from being unfairly charged for essential school supplies.

Additionally, All DEOs were inducted to constitute a mandal-level committee to monitor private schools regularly and also ensure that no private school management (CBSE/State/ICSE) running in Hyderabad district should sell uniforms, shoes, belts etc. on the school premises.

According to the Hyderabad School Parents Association, already 90 per cent of the books had been sold, and that too at double rates. In CBSE and ICSE schools, the new academic year has already begun in month of March.

There is no use of issuing an order when hardly only few days are remaining for the school to reopen. It would be better if the order was issued in March or April.

Moreover, why is this order only for private schools in Hyderabad district but not to the entire State of Telangana, asked the members of the Association.
