Safety measures beefed up at Exhibition Grounds
As part of increasing the safety measures, the Exhibition Society began revamping grounds of All India Industrial Exhibition with additional infrastructure that would boost safety mechanism in case of any accidents like the previous year’s fire accident, which gutted scores of shops.
Nampally: As part of increasing the safety measures, the Exhibition Society began revamping grounds of All India Industrial Exhibition with additional infrastructure that would boost safety mechanism in case of any accidents like the previous year's fire accident, which gutted scores of shops.
As part of this keeping in mind of the public safety and that of the stalls, the society has taken up a major project of constructing two massive water sumps of 1.5 lakh litre each to help firefighting and making underground, the entire electrical wiring throughout the exhibition ground to avert any possibility of short-circuit.
On Friday, Minister of Health & Family Welfare and President of Exhibition Society Eatala Rajender inspected the ongoing projects in exhibition grounds and later during press conference he said that in view of the last year's incident, the exhibition was getting equipped with firefighting system, as per the recommendations of the departments concerned. The 2 huge water sumps will also support, the fire pipelines being laid underground, throughout the exhibition.
While explaining Eatala said that the exhibition is installing 3 types of fire-fighting pipelines are being laid with 2850 meters in length, all over the exhibition. In the entire exhibition there are total 85 fire hydrants points, each 200 meters across the exhibition. The entire project will cost Rs 2.1 crore, he added.
"This year during the 80th All India Industrial Exhibition-2020, Society is taking all the precautions as suggested by the Departments of Fire and Police so as to ensure no fire accident," he said.
Electrical wires placed underground
Another major safety is making underground all the electrical wiring, in compliance with the instructions of Chief Electrical Inspector to Government. In the last year society had laid electrical underground cable to a running length of 880 meters and replacing 80% overhead power lines.
This year they are laying electrical underground cable in the exhibition grounds covering a running length of 473 meters replacing remaining 20% overhead power lines. And the works will be completed within 10 days. Thereafter the entire Electrical lines at Exhibition Grounds will be 100 % undergrounded. Earlier, the society has installed 22 distribution boxes with 160 amps MCCBs for distribution of load equally to all the stalls.
This year they added 10 more distribution boxes. All these additional measures are taken up to safeguard Stall Holders and Public. Society is placing the fire extinguishers at selected places in the Exhibition Grounds. In addition, Society is also placing water barrels and fire buckets at selected places at the Grounds.
The fire department is indenting two fire engines and a Fire Motor Bike. Mock drills will be undertaken before the start of Exhibition with the cooperation of Fire and Police Departments. Society will depute trained volunteers to operate Fire hydrant valves in case of emergency.
In case of emergency society is also going to place the Exit Signages at prominent places in the grounds, indicating the path. It also set up 3 more gates for public to escape in case of any incident.
There will be enough space for the fire engine to move in case of any fire incident. This year, the society would not allow stall holders to use any kind of gas stoves for preparing the food near their stalls, the organisers said.
