Saaf Hyderabad, Shandaar Hyderabad Steps apace to improve solid waste management
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to improve the Solid Waste Management (SWM) in its limits.
Khairatabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to improve the Solid Waste Management (SWM) in its limits. A meeting was held on Thursday with Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Medical Health Officers (AMHOs) headed by GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore. An initiative was made with a motto, 'Saaf Hyderabad, Shandaar Hyderabad'.
The mission is to make city bin free, dust free and litter free, said the GHMC officials. Solid waste management practices can differ for residential and industrial producers and for urban and rural areas. A team is being formed to make the mission a success.
The team will have sanitary supervisor, sanitary inspector, sanitary jawan, sanitary field assistant and sweepers/garbage collectors. Indoor project team managers, NGOs, Community Resource Persons (CRPs) and ITC coordinators will be the supporting staff of the programme.
The GHMC officials have set a few tasks and timelines for improving SWM in project areas, including100% staff attendance, 100% door-to-door collection of waste, 100% segregation of waste, 100% elimination of black spots, decentralised composting in gardens and bulk garbage, establishment of waste collection from bulk garbage generators and commercials, litter picking and sweeping mechanism and maintaining open defecation free.
CRP will carry feedback register on attendance point without fail. Door-to-door collection vehicle will collect the waste twice a day. The GHMC will also identification of area in the ward where decentralized community composting can be taken up and in campuses of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Bulk garbage Generators (BGG) like hotels, hospitals etc.
Enforcement team will patrol in commercial areas and public places to instruct the shop vendors about no littering and also spot fines will be collected by the enforcement team for any violations.
The primary goal of solid waste management is to reduce and eliminate adverse impacts of waste materials on human health and environment and to support economic development and superior quality of life.
Solid waste management practices can differ for residential and industrial producers, for urban and rural areas. The administration of non-hazardous waste in city is the main objective of this initiative. On the other hand, the management of hazardous waste materials is typically the job of the common public too.
