Hyderabad: Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika (TVV) staged protest on Friday, demanding the release of Professor GM Saibaba and revolutionary writer Varavara Rao.
Speaking on the occasion, the TVV activists said that it was unjust on the part of the central government to imprison Professor Saibaba, who was suffering from 90 per cent physical impairment, over alleged links with Maoists.
This goes against the UN view that persons with 90 per cent impairment cannot be imprisoned, they added. It is unfortunate that he was not even being given the bail, they lamented. Varavara Rao, who inspired many in Telangana through his poems and writings, was falsely implicated alleging conspiracy to assassinate PM and was imprisoned in Yerawada jail, they alleged.
It was shameful that the Telangana government had failed to respond on the imprisonment of a Telangana poet. They demanded that the state government come out with its stance in this regard.
Later, the protestors were arrested and shifted to Gandhi Nagar police station. Among those who were arrested include state president of TVV Maddileti, state secretary Shilpa, CMS president Gopi, TVV activists Bhaskar, Balaram, Sahithi, Nagaraju, Mahesh, Sandhya, Koti, John, Anjamma and others.
