Poetry should reflect reality: Krishnaiah
BC Welfare Association National President R Krishnaiah has said that poetry has power to inspire society. He was speaking at a state-level poets’ meeting ‘Vasanthotsavam,’ organized by state BC Teachers’ Union here at BC Bhavan on Wednesday. The meeting was presided over by the founder president of the union Sutharapu Venkatanarayana.

Speaking on the occasion, Krishnaiah said that poetry has a unique place in literature. Explaining about the essential characteristics of poetry, he said poetry should touch hearts and move minds of the readers.
It has power to not only influence humans, but also enhance their lives, he said. Poets should have clear understanding about contemporary society they are living in and respond in a way that acts as driving force and influence their thoughts on various issues of the society, he said. Poetry should connect past with the present and serve as a guide to the future generations, he said.
Poets should take up the responsibility of inspiring the society and their poetry should reflect the values of the entire system or society rather than being limited to a particular person or organization.
Apart from propagating their ideology creatively, poets should ensure that their poetry reflects reality, he said. Explaining different roles that poetry can take up in different circumstances, he said poetry should entertain when people are leading happy and peaceful lives, raise patriotism during war times and instill courage among people when anarchy reins.
Poetry has the power to bring cultural revival and political awareness, and it has always helped in the propagation of ideas for the benefit of the society, he said. Emphasizing on the power of poetry to transform societies, he said that revolutions are possible only through revolution of ideas.
Several poets and writers from various districts of Telangana attended Vasanthotsavam. K Veena Reddy, S Jayanthi, SarojanaVinjamari, Kandepi Rajya Lakshmi, Punna Vijayalakshmi, Murthy Sridevi, Rajani Kulakarni, Potturi Subba Rao, Pusala Rajani Gangadhar, Mavikunta Narayan Reddy, Dr Nageshwar Rao, Dr Ravindra, J Vidyadhar Rao, Ponnam Rajaiah Goud, Bonala Prakash, Mailaram Sattaiah, Abdul Rasheed and others participated in the meeting.
