People wasting water to be fined heavily
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) have decided to impose heavy penalty on those who waste water by washing their residence and their vehicles in the city.
Khairatabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) have decided to impose heavy penalty on those who waste water by washing their residence and their vehicles in the city.
GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore held a joint meeting of the top officials of the GHMC and HMWS&SB on Saturday. Commissioner said that the drinking water was being provided to the citizens by paying a hefty electric bill Rs 700 crore and of which nearly Rs 200 crore worth electricity bill was being wasted just because of people wasting water in city, he said.
Even though GHMC and Water Board have conducted various awareness programmes on wastage of water, city is still witnessing wastage of 50 million gallons of water every day, he said.
Commissioner instructed the GHMC and Water Board officials to conduct surprise visit in the morning every day and impose penalty on those who waste lots of water to wash their houses, vehicles and shops.
City parks to get treated water
Dana Kishore said that city parks should use the water which comes from the sewerage treatment plants (STPs) and there are 20 STPs in city. He instructed the Water Board officials to make separate pipeline arrangements to supply water to nearby parks from STPs. In 2020, as part of the Swachh Sarvekshan, importance should be given to use more and more STP water, he said.
Swachh Bharat Parks would come up in the city to highlight the points of Swachh Bharat, the Commissioner said.
Swachh Hyderabad, Saaf-Shaandar Hyderabad and other initiatives have been initiated to get the recognition by the Centre's Swachh Bharat Mission and is being implemented in other states also, he said.
Formation of health committees
The Commissioner ordered setting up of health committees by self-help groups in the city and these committees would play an important role in handling of the seasonal diseases, mother-child care, awareness on basti dawakhana.
At the meeting, additional commissioners Sruthi Ojha, Sikta Patnaik, Adwaith Kumar Singh, Kennedy, Krishna, Vigilance director Vishwajeet Kampati, zonal commissioners Mushraff Ali, Shankaraiah and other officials were present.
