About 800 doctoral degree holders are expected to receive their certificates and 292 students will be presented gold medals at the 80th convocation of the Osmania University, scheduled to be held on June 17.
Hyderabad: About 800 doctoral degree holders are expected to receive their certificates and 292 students will be presented gold medals at the 80th convocation of the Osmania University, scheduled to be held on June 17.
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, University Vice-Chancellor Prof S Ramachandram, Registrar Prof Ch Gopal Reddy and Controller of Examinations Prof Sriram Venkatesh said the university is all geared up to hold the convocation which is held after a gap of six years.
Prof Ramachandram said the last and 79th convocation of the university was held on February 7, 2013. The degrees and gold medals would be presented at the 80th convocation to the students who have completed their degrees successfully from July 2012 to June 2018.
State Governor and Chancellor of the University E S L Narasimhan and Director of the IICT DR S Chandrasekhar will be the chief guest of the convocation. The Vice-Chancellor said a total of 2,896 PhD degrees are awarded during the intervening gap of six years and out of this, nearly 1,096 have already taken their degree certificates. So far 679 candidates have registered for receiving their degrees during the convocation. Besides, there are 292 students who have received gold medals. In all, 1,100 would be presented during the convocation, he said.
He said those attending to receive their degrees should register through the online system for obtaining entry passes and download the same. The invitations would be printed from June 12 to 14, and recipients of the gold medals and PhD degree holders should collect their invitations from the examination branch on June 15, he said.
The convocation venue can accommodate a maximum of about 1,500 people. One person is allowed to acompany a gold medalist for the convocation ceremony. However, due to the space constraints, separate arrangements would be made for all such visitors near the venue, he said. The convocation process would start sharp at 9 am and those attending the ceremony should occupy their seats by 8 am, he said. In regard to the do's and don'ts, Prof Ramachandram said that carrying mobiles are prohibited inside the venue of the convocation ceremony.
The convocation ceremony would be broadcast live on Doordarshan and web live streaming is also arranged at http://OU80thConovation.live.streams9.in for those who could not attend and for the sake alumni of the university, he said.
