NTPC, GHMC campaign against single use plastic
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in coordination with NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) Ltd organized a drive with the theme of ‘Swachhta hi Seva’ (SHS) against single use plastic product and a Shramadaan for plastic collection and segregation at the programme was taken up as part of Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations at Charminar on Wednesday.
Charminar: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in coordination with NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) Ltd organized a drive with the theme of 'Swachhta hi Seva' (SHS) against single use plastic product and a Shramadaan for plastic collection and segregation at the programme was taken up as part of Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations at Charminar on Wednesday.
As part of the campaign the GHMC and NTPC officials participated in Shramadan for plastic collection and segregation of plastic waste during the programme. Dilip Kumar Dubey, Regional Executive Director (South) NTPC, Mohammed Musharraf Ali Faruqui, Additional Commissioner, IT, Waste to Energy, SDP-CPP, GHMC, Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner and B Srinivas Reddy, Zonal Commissioner, GHMC took part in the programme.
It may be mentioned here that NTPC had adopted the iconic Charminar under the Swachh Iconic Places Projects of India in 2018, as part of special driver under the Central government's Swachh Bharat Mission.
The Corporation had also signed a MoU with GHMC for implementation of development and beautification works under the CPP (Charminar Pedestrianisation Project). In this partnership they had agreed to take up development and beautification works at Charminar, which includes providing battery-operated vehicles for visitors, bollards to prevent traffic, Swachh Auto Tippers (SAT) for carting garbage, mechanical sweeping vehicles and litter picking machines, decorative and halogen lighting of four arches, construction of public utilities, toilets and drinking water ATM kiosks.
Street plays and Nukkad Natak were held to highlight the hazards of using single use plastic products. NTPC and GHMC staff and a large number of people took part in the programme.
Earlier also the NTPC in association with the GHMC took up a cleanliness drive at Charminar as part of a nationwide drive. NTPC employees and GHMC staff took active part in the programme and carried out cleaning as well as garbage removal around the Charminar area.
