No major issues, slum devp to top agenda: Azampura Corporator Ayesha Jahan Naseem

Azampura Corporator: Corporator-elect of Azampura division Ayesha Jahan (AIMIM) won for the second time in the recent GHMC elections. The 31-year-old and her husband, Mohiuddin Abrar, are residents of Azampura. They have been active in politics for over a decade.

According to Ayesha, the division does not have major issues. Instead, there are some slum areas. Azampura has 11 slums, some on the banks of river Musi.

"The division witnessed facelift in localities in the last term. People who reposed faith in me have given me another term to serve them," she said.

In the earlier term, Ayesha explained how she was able to execute works. Many works, like providing all amenities, including proper roads, sewerage system and many major civic works were taken up. "The slums now have good roads. My focus is to develop slums and provide health care, good sanitation and improved roads," she added.

Explaining the works taken up earlier, Abrar said "the corporator has ensured development works worth Rs 20 crore, laying of VDCC roads, re-modelling of sewerage and water pipelines, development of nala, construction of retaining wall near the Musi and the entire Hari Lal Bagh area (where Home Minister's house is located) has been developed. She constructed and developed 10 community halls and three parks in the division. More works are in progress," he added.

The works also include the 12 2bhk flats in Bhodh Ali Shah Khidhki and a connecting bridge from the ward office to Farhat Nagar, with a sanctioned amount of Rs 2 crore.

Asked about the action plan of this term, Ayesha said her personal interest was in improvising health care, sanitation and development of slums. "There are two 'Basti Dawakhanas' in the division. One more is proposed at Jhatpat Nagar. In Chanchalguda soon there will be one more dawakhana. These dispensaries are mostly in slums. Actually only two 'dawakhanas' were proposed in each division, but on my request one more is in progress.

Following a representation by the MLA, a 50-bed government hospital is also sanctioned in this term in Dabeerpura. Soon the work will commence. Also, a separate sub-station is being set up," said Ayesha.

According to the corporator-elect, during every rainfall most areas get flooded. Observing the recent floods, we have proposed a SW box drain lane starting from Jhatpat Nagar to Lalazar Hotel Road at a cost of Rs 2.3 crore. It will be directly connected to river Musi and will avoid water-logging. A retaining wall from Moosa Nagar to Kamal Nagar, is planned.
