Bahadurpura: As part of animal exchange programme, the Nehru Zoological Park on Wednesday received a pair of Hippopotamus, Nilgiri Langur, Grey Wolf and a female Lion Tailed Macaque.

According to zoo authorities, as part of animal exchange programme as approved by the Central Zoo Authority, the exchange was made in place of one Rhinoceros and two pairs of Mouse Deers which found their new home at Vandalur Zoo, Chennai, recently.

The details of animals received by Hyderabad Zoo are hippopotamuses named Rama (4) and Raji (1); Nilgiri Langur (male aged about 7 years and female aged about 15 years); Grey Wolf (Male aged about 1year 7 months and female aged about 9 years) and Lion Tailed Macaque (Female and aged about 2 year). "All these animals are being kept at the quarantine block for a period of 45-60 days. After the completion of the quarantine period, they will be released into the display enclosure for the public display," informed an official.

It may be mentioned here that 'Ramu,' the male one-horned Rhinoceros (born in the Hyderabad Zoo in 2015) and Mouse Deer were sent to Vandalur Zoo on August 1. A team of officials from Vandalur Zoo visited Hyderabad Zoo on July 30 for this purpose. The NZP officials headed by the Deputy Director (Veterinary) along with 7 others accompanied them to Vandalur Zoo. The team brought the new animals as part of the approved exchange plan.
