Mailardevpally division: Roads disappear, air turns pungent due to industries
Several colonies are still facing under serious civic issues and residents are seen openly expressing discontent over the impassive attitude of the GHMC officials and the elected representatives
Hyderabad: The Mailardevpally (division-59 located in the city suburbs under Rajendranagar constituency) is an unreserved ward and is represented by TRS Corporator Tokala Srinivas Reddy who had recently switched over to BJP, after serving the party for almost four years. Despite a tough competition during the last GHMC elections (2016), Reddy defeated his arch-rival T Premdas Goud, a TDP candidate, and brother of a three-time sitting MLA T Prakash Goud, by a margin of 5,474 votes. Out of a total of 76,038 votes, he secured a total of 18,259 votes in his favour, thus putting a question mark on the political fate of TDP candidate Premdas Goud who managed to get 12,785 votes as the runner-up.
In this division, several colonies are still facing serious civic issues and residents are seen openly expressing discontent over the impassive attitude of the GHMC officials and the elected representatives.
"Realising this apathetic attitude, the residents had taken up road repair works on their own two months back, as the only approach road to the area was completely damaged due to frequent moment of heavy vehicles," said Mohd Naser, a resident of the nearby colony.
Similar to other GHMC wards, the Mailardevpally division is faced with numerous issues that remain unheard by officials and leaders. Besides bad roads, outdated sewerage line and non-availability of clean drinking water in several areas, increasing air pollution add to the woes of locals. These issues point out the poignant state of the ward for the past several years.
"For several years these problems have been persisting. Though they were taken to the notice of the MLA, the Corporator and the GHMC officials time and again, but people were met with only promises and assurances that were not fulfilled yet," said Shamshad Hasnain, a resident of Dream Monarch colony, Gagan Pahad.
Despite being a residential area, he added, the only road to his colony is being used by heavy containers used by nearby industries. Moreover, pollution emanating from industries makes them feel uneasy every day, as the pungent odour always hangs in the air, leaving the public often gasping for fresh air.
"There are no proper streetlights available in the area. It takes almost two to three months to get them repaired," said Mohd Mahboob.
