Kavitha demands legal action against constable
Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Kavitha demanded that legal action be taken against a constable for allegedly making objectionable comments against her on Facebook.
Kavitha expressed anger that while derogatory remarks against women could attract imprisonment of up to three years, the constable concerned had only been suspended. She warned that if action was not taken against him in accordance with the law, she would bring “international-level embarrassment” to the government.
“If someone makes similar comments against the DGP’s two daughters-in-law, will he remain silent? DGP, what is your responsibility? Where is your sensitivity? If you cannot protect a woman like me, how will you protect ordinary women?” she asked.
Speaking to the media at the party office in Banjara Hills on Sunday, Kavitha said women had been subjected to highly abusive trolling on social media in recent times. She alleged that the police had failed to act against those responsible despite such incidents. Kavitha also alleged that the crime rate in the State had increased since CV Anand took charge as Director General of Police.
Referring to the DGP’s reported remarks during his visit to Khammam that ganja consumption had increased following the decline of Naxalism, she questioned whether it was appropriate for a senior police officer to make such a statement. The TRS president alleged that even after nearly three years, the Congress government had failed to fulfil its assurances to the families of Telangana activists.
