Inundation problem not solved for decades
Tucked away in the lower part of East Anandbagh in Malkajgiri, Shirdi Nagar Colony is besieged by a plethora of problems.
East Anandbagh: Tucked away in the lower part of East Anandbagh in Malkajgiri, Shirdi Nagar Colony is besieged by a plethora of problems. Residents have been facing a lot of problems, especially during the rainy season. The major threat to the colony is Bandla Cheruvu which after receiving just 15 minutes rain results in some colonies getting inundated. NMDC Colony, for instance, is one such colony that is affected badly.
The main reason for the overflow of nala is because of the closure of Ramakrishna Puram Lake. During the rainy season, the water from the Safilguda Lake also flows into the Bandla Cheruvu. Due to the encroachments of the nala near Bandla Cheruvu, the width of the nala has shrunk from 15 feet to 6 feet. Locals said that if a direct nala was constructed from Anand Saraswathi Nagar through Kalyan Nagar, it would solve inundation problem.
Add to this, the roads in the colony have been in a pathetic condition. Residents and commuters face hardship due to the muddy and sticky roads. The drainage water overflows and remains stagnant on the roads.
About the Colony:
Shirdi Nagar colony was formed in the year 1980. There are around 280 houses in this colony, with a population of around 2,000. Over a period of existence for 25 years, the amenities stated improving only in the last decade. The residents are forced to use water boats when there is heavy rain to move from one place to another. The approach road to Shirdi Nagar from Anandbagh main road where RuB was started in 2014 is yet to be completed.
