Hyderabad: Former MLA of BJP, Nallu Indrasena Reddy, filed a Public Interest Litigation seeking a direction to the State government to hand over the completed double bedroom houses to beneficiaries in all districts of the State.
The petitioner, a three-time MLA, informed the court that as on July 31, the number of double bedroom houses which were completed and ready for allotment in the State were 1,00,087, and the houses which were already allotted were a meagre 12,656 and they were 87,425 houses yet to be allotted.
He alleged that the respective District Collectors were not allotting the houses to beneficiaries due to political pressure and the delay was causing damage to houses as miscreants were resorting to theft of doors, windows, switch boards, kitchen accessories and bathroom fittings, and further the these houses have become a haven for anti-social elements to carry out their activities.
The money spent on the construction of the houses was taxpayers' money and the government cannot waste the money by not allotting the houses, submitted the petitioner. The District Collectors of all the 33 districts have been made respondents in the PIL besides the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Housing department and Commissioner GHMC.
The plea will come up for hearing before the ACJ bench on Wednesday.
