Hyderabad: The Telangana Government will organise the Independence Day celebrations on a grand scale on August 15 at the historic Golconda fort.

As the elections are due in the next 90 days or so, the government proposes to make the celebrations a cultural extravaganza reflecting the uniqueness of Telangana.

The State Culture department has been asked to make special arrangements for the conduct of cultural programmes. A team of Tribal artistes and state cultural groups will perform special dances and Telangana art forms during the celebrations.

The state government has directed various departments to make elaborate arrangements for the grand celebration in coordination with Army officials at the Martyrs’ Memorial at the Secunderabad Parade Grounds. Police, Roads and Buildings, Information department, GHMC, Electricity, Transport and other departments will make necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the celebrations.

Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari held a high-level meeting on Tuesday and discussed the arrangements which are being made at both these venues. Chief Secretary said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will hoist the national flag at Golconda fort as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

He will also pay tributes to the freedom fighters at the Martyrs' Memorial at the Secunderabad Parade Ground. Official sources said that KCR will present special awards to the artistes and noted personalities in the field of fine arts in the celebrations.
